Lima Khatun Bishty:- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized 24 gold bars conducting searches on board a local bus at Amrakhali checkpost on Jashore-Benapole road.
One Baki Billah, an alleged gold smuggler, was also arrested from the bus. He is the son of Abdul Wahab of village Balunda of Benapole Port Police Station.
The arrested person told the law enforcers that the seized gold bars weighing about 2kg were being smuggled to India.
49 BGB CEO Lt Col Selim Reza said he got clue from an informant that a consignment of gold bar was being smuggled out through Benapole Port. Instantly, he cautioned the BGB members posted at Amrakhali checkpost.
Afterward, Nayek Shahjahan Ali posted at the checkpost started searching all the Benapole-bound buses. At about 3:45pm, he got on board a local bus and started searching the passengers.
While searching the passenger Baki Billah, the BGB personnel felt that something was concealed in his waist. Later, he was brought down from the bus.Searching Baki Billah’s body,
24 gold bars were found. The market price of the seized gold bars is 1.39 crore, claimed the BGB.A case was filed by the BGB at Benapole Port Police Station in this regard.
